Position Title: Resident Hall Director/Assistant Coordinator of Student Life
Position Accountable to: Director of Residential Life/Student Retention
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing all aspects of the residence hall, including the training and education of student assistants. This role ensures that educational programming and safety procedures are properly implemented and followed. Additionally, it requires providing outstanding customer service to students, donors, sponsors, alumni, and all internal and external stakeholders. Support is also provided to the Office of Student Life, including areas such as the Philips-Robb Recreation Center, student organizations, student activities, and camps and conferences. _____________________________________________________________________________
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and analyze the atmosphere in the residence hall
- Identify challenges and respond to all situations and/or concerns
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations, services and activities of the Resident Hall. Supervise undergraduate staff and develop a team which will implement all of the activities, programs and services needed to create an inclusive community that reflects the mission and goals of Residence Life, the Office of Student Development, and Central Methodist University
- Facilitate a positive, supportive atmosphere which fosters success in academic and personal endeavors by developing individual relationships with students
- Implement departmental community initiatives and foster an environment that values respect for others and celebrates the differences of each person
- Support the Office of Student Development and the retention of students
- Conduct building meetings, inspections, and support student leadership
- Serve on an on-call rotation
- Provide excellent customer service skills to all areas of responsibilities
- Responsible for facilitating, coordinating, and scheduling intramurals for students throughout the academic year. Assures the availability, quality, and effectiveness of internal and external student body. Able to plan with the Coordinator of Student Life and Coordinator of Student Programming to prevent scheduling conflicts with campus-wide events. Assists in catering to all aspects of facilitating campus wide events to ensure a safe and service orientated Student Life.
- Assist with Work Study staffing and scheduling during the week or weekends.
- Other duties as assigned
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must be able to coordinate all the Resident Assistant’s in the building, for scheduling, direction, and conflict management.
- Strong communication and organizational skills required
- Must be able to gain and maintain CMU driving approval
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Resident Hall experience (preferred)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- First Aid, CPR, AED; ability to lift 50lbs, stand
- Set up resident rooms, move furniture up and down stairs.
- Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling
- Able to pass the lifeguard certification.
- Must be able to speak in a clear and loud voice to large groups
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Provide Excellent Consumer Service, Excellent Public Speaking abilities; Personnel Management Skills & Experiences; Microsoft Word
- Knowledge of a college residential environment
- Proficient in Microsoft 2010: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Effectively utilize interpersonal and communication skills
- Effectively utilize organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality of work-related information and materials and student records
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Well-developed customer service skills are a must
- The ability to creatively problem-solve and streamline processes that enable the campus to effectively interact with residence life
- The ability to thrive in a changing, flexible, fast paced environment with evolving technology
